Craft Show Brings Thousands to Occoquan

The streets of Occoquan were filled with shoppers and vendors on Sept. 24 for the first day of the Occoquan Fall Arts and Crafts Show.
Mayor Earnie Porta said he's not sure what the final numbers will be, but that previous shows in the past couple of years have brought in 10,000 to 15,000 shoppers, and this fall's show seemed to be on track to fall in that range.
The craft show is open again today from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Thanks for the pictures, Rachel! I wasn't able to attend the craft show this year and I wish I could have after seeing the variety of items for sale.

I can understand all the tents during the craft show and that they keep vehicles out of town during the hours of the show, but I don't understand that they also block handicapped parking spaces with tents for the show.
If it's illegal for someone to park in a handicapped parking space without a permit to do so, why is it not illegal for the town to block such parking spaces with tents? It's not like there are all that many such parking spaces in Occoquan anyway.

Actually they have designated a special section of Handicap parking on Commerce Street right as you come into the craft show that. The Whole section had no tents what so ever set up. So yes they have used existing handicap parking for tents but have mad this special section even more convenient for the shoppers that need those spaces. I'm sure any of the National Guard or any other person directing traffic would have directed you to the appropriate area if asked.

Rachel, thanks for capturing the picture of our booth (ImageWerks)! The quality of artists this year was better than has been in past shows and it's only going to get better as we bring in more artists from around the region & Mid-Atlantic.
