Cyber Monday-The Shopping Continues

Just when you thought all of the Black Fridays and Small Business Saturdays were behind you and you could go back to enjoying untitled, non-shopping inspired days of the week, here upon us we now have Cyber Monday.

Although the term sounds like less of a shopping day than some kind of software virus, Cyber Monday, according to Wiki, is a marketing term coined by trade association Shop.org, a division of the National Retail Federation. The term is meant to lend a name of sorts to the Monday after Thanksgiving being the beginning of the Christmas shopping season, where some online retailers offer special deals.

Statistics from marketing research company comScore show that spending on Cyber Monday, from 2006 to 2009 rose each year with the 2009 grand total of online Cyber Monday spending reaching $887 million…compared with $608 million in 2006. So it's apparent that credit cards aren't burned out yet from the shopping craze over the Thanksgiving weekend.

One more piece of information-over half of these multi-million dollar Cyber Monday sales made on U.S. sites are said to come from work computers. So people are at work, and shopping online at the same time. Shocking!!

Although some employers will keep tabs on employee productivity over the course of Cyber Monday, online shopping today will still most probably reach high sale levels.

So whether you're burned out by the shopping frenzy of the past weekend, or you're fired up to make a dent on your Christmas shopping list, Cyber Monday can offer another outlet for some further shopping deals.
