Prince William County Police are evacuating Pfitzner Stadium

Update. June 30:

Chief Brodie released additional information concerning the fire Friday evening. It took fire and rescue units 30 minutes to contain the fire. The administrative offices on the second floor took on the most significant damage.

"The building inspector has designated this area unsafe to occupy. Approximately six employees were in the building when the fire occurred and self-evacuated prior to the fire department’s arrival," said Chief Brodie. "One employee was transported to a medical facility for smoke inhalation. The preliminary damage estimate is not yet available. A health inspector was also requested and responded to assist."

Update, 6:20 p.m.: In the record-breaking heat, the firefighters were quick to take off their gear as they left the stadium. Coolers of water and electrical fans were set up around the base of a large tree as the firefighters took turns sitting in the shade.

A man was helped onto a stretcher. He was conscious and able to sit up. The extent of any injuries are so far unknown.

At the time I arrived, the black smoke that was initially reported was no longer visible.

I'll update you when I receive more official information on the status of the fire.
