Lake Ridge Bloom to be Converted to Food Lion

Delhaize American, the company that owns , Food Lion and grocery stores, announced Wednesday that it will be closing and converting stores in the Woodbridge area.

The company is aiming to “strengthen Food Lion brand” by closing 113 underperforming Food Lion stores where the company has the least store density.

Additionally, the company is converting 64 Bloom and Bottom Dollar Food stores to Food Lions in Virginia, Maryland and North Carolina; but will eliminate underperforming stores in overlapping markets.

All affected stores will close within 30 days and store conversions will begin immediately.

“As a result of these actions, approximately 4,900 associates will be displaced. The company will provide severance to eligible associates, and will work with government officials to assist with transition support,” states a press release.

The Lake Ridge Bloom in Dillingham Square will be converted to a Food Lion. In Woodbridge, the 5592 Staples Mill Plaza Bloom will also be converted. Two Woodbridge Bottom Dollar locations at 14641 and 13414 Jefferson Davis Highway will be converted to Food Lions as well. 

Bloom at 14055 Noblewood Plaza will close entirely. 

The Bloom brand will be retired as the company tries to bring back Food Lion. “As we believe the stores will better meet customer needs through low prices and quality products,” said a press release.
