Lake Ridge Teen Charged With Sexual Assault of Young Boy
The 18-year-old was arrested after an investigation that began June 15.
An 18-year-old Lake Ridge man was arrested this week and charged with aggravated sexual battery and indecent liberties with a minor after a sexual assault was reported to police, police spokesperson Jonathan Perok said.
Detectives from the Special Victims Bureau began investigating the assault on June 15 at 5:36 a.m. after the report of a sexual assault the night before.
"The investigation revealed that the victim, a 9-year-old boy of Woodbridge, had been sexually assaulted by the accused, a family member," Perok said.
The accused was arrested after the investigation. His court date is unavailable. He is being held without bond.

This is tragic, but in no sense is it newsworthy. In fact, reporting such should perhaps be made illegal, if it is not. In ways perhaps both are victims, and certainly one is a minor. Shameful.

boseamus, thank you for your comment. Aggravated sexual battery, particularly against a minor, is definitely newsworthy, although you'll notice we withheld identifying information to protect the victim. Reporting on this is definitely not illegal. If it were illegal, the police department itself would be liable. A free press is one of the cornerstones of a free society. Have a nice evening.

Far be it from me to advocate in favor of a more restrictive society. I do maintain that reporting this incident is shameful, that it serves no obvious good purpose. Perhaps the police department should be liable, if it is not.

boseamus,
You are absolutely entitled to your opinion. These incidents (and all other arrests) are made public by the Prince William County police. Patch reports the public information. This is Patch policy and is commonplace in most journalistic publications. If you would like to take up the public release of the charge with Prince William County police, here is a page to their contact information. http://www.pwcgov.org/government/dept/police/Pages/Contact-Information.aspx

My comments are directed towards the policies of this news organization. Were all incidents made public by the police department published here, perhaps I would think differently. If I were unaware of my rights and responsibilities your making them known to me might be meaningful. I am well aware that my words are only my opinion and these are my last words in in regards to this. What has happened is shameful.

Well, perhaps boseamus, when one of your realtives becomes victim to sexual predators, then and only then might you change your mind on reporting of such crimes. I'm glad we have that freedom to discuss and expose such horrendous acts against defenseless victims. I hope that 9 year old will get what he needs in ways of support.
