Occoquan Nominated for Coolest Small Town in the Country
Do you think Occoquan deserves to win Coolest Small Town in 2012?
Budget Travel has released its list of the 2012 nominations for the Coolest Small Town in the country, and Occoquan made the list. Vote for Occoquan at the link.
I think Occoquan is certainly worthy of winning Coolest Small Town, but I want to know what you think. Why do you think Occoquan deserves (or doesn't deserve) to win? What do you like and dislike about our riverside town?
Occoquan hosts popular events such as the spring and fall craft shows and the Duck Splash fundraiser. These events are always attended by large crowds, many traveling in from out of county or even out of state.
Occoquan is home to a variety of businesses, such as the Polka Dot Divas, Salt & Pepper Books, True Love Always Tattoo, and popular restaurants such as Bistro L'Hermitage and Cock & Bowl. List more of your favorites in the comments.

One of the great things about my first two years in the Virginia House of Delegates has been the town of Occoquan...and especially its great people, families, and businesses! I have enjoyed attending town events and Town Council meetings, knowing and making new friends, and shopping in the town's wide variety of stores and shops. Occoquan is definitely the BIGGEST small town in America--this honor is no surprise and is well deserving!

It is wonderful to see Occoquan recognized for being the unique and quirky place it is. Small towns like Occoquan offer us more than simply shopping and treats. Small towns remind us that friends and neighbors are sill important, and that in a world increasingly defined by chain stores and restaurant, and a crushing homogeneity and conformity, uniqueness is still desirable. Occoquan is like a cool breeze: gentle, refreshing, and always welcome. If that's not cool, I do not know what is.
