Taste of Lake Ridge Satisfies and Delights

Residents of Lake Ridge and surrounding areas enjoyed the tastings provided by LRPRA's Taste of Lake Ridge in a lively atmosphere.

Last night's Taste of Lake Ridge brought together a sampling of local fare for both new and returning customers to enjoy.

Over 12 vendors were in attendance with plenty of food to support the large crowd.

Every year, the event showcases a diverse range of local food businesses, from chain restaurants to out-of-the-house bakeries.  It provides opportunity for community members to experience local restaurants and other food establishments often for the first time.

The stormy forecast cleared up long enough for hundreds of people to enjoy and have fun at the  event, which ran from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Songs from Journey, Bon Jovi and Abba were heard over the speakers, as the live DJ announced deals from each vendors. Enthusiastic vendors, like the cupcake ladies from Confections, would cheer when they heard their business announced. The representatives from Hard Times Café danced to YMCA as they gladly distributed spicy buffo wings. As the DJ cranked up the “Cha Cha Slide,” several people spread throughout the parking lot started dancing. A group of adolescent boys hopped around the whole parking lot as Sir Mix-A-Lot’s “Jump On It” was played.

“It is hot out here!  But we are excited to make Zoës Kitchen presence by Wegman’s known to people here,” said Kaycee and Emily of Zoës Kitchen.

The event gave local businesses the opportunity to engage possible customers, not only by giving large samples but by passing out coupons, hosting raffles and providing menus and fliers about upcoming events.

, a local home-based business providing sweet snack mixes, hosted a raffle which delighted Joy, a resident who could not decide if she would give the winnings as a gift or keep the white chocolate coated snack mix as her own treat.

Samples at the Taste of Lake Ridge were given to those with tickets. The tickets could be purchased at the front booth from the LRPRA, where they also provided cold drinks. At fifty cents each, most vendors required just one or two tickets per sizable sample. Only ten tickets provided for a nicely sized, delicious meal.

Not only did families and friends gather to hang out and eat, but the parking lot was filled with energy and the huge playground next door was filled with children laughing and playing.
