Weekend Planner: Ducky Race, Park Birthday, Dance Performance

1. Annual Duck Splash Fundraiser

Where/When: Occoquan River, 125 Mill St, Occoquan. June 18, 12:30 p.m.

 Why Go: Rain or shine, on Saturday three thousand numbered rubber ducks will drop into the Occoquan River and race to the town docks. Adopt a rubber duck from any number of shops in Historic Occoquan. Prizes will be awarded to the top 10 duckies. Funds will benefit the Prince William Trails and Streams Coalition. First prize is $500, second through fifth is $100, and sixth through tenth is $20. 

Pricing: Duck adoptions are $5.

2. Park Birthday Party

Where/When: Leesylvania State Park, 2001 Daniel K Ludwig Dr., Dale City. June 18, 11 a.m.- 4 p.m.

Why Go: Come enjoy Virginia State Parks' 75th birthday celebration. Stop by the visitor center to learn about the history of Leesylvania and the park system as a whole. Enjoy games, win prizes, have fun with family activities and more! Free cake will be served at 2 p.m. at the Breakwater Marina store.

Pricing: Free.

3. Dance Performance

Where/ When: Woodbridge Senior High School, 3001 Old Bridge Rd, Woodbridge. June 19, 3 p.m.

Why Go:  An annual dance performance hosted by the Woodbridge Dance Company and the Woodbridge Academy. The performance will include the ballet "Pas De Quatre" and will feature dance styles such as contemporary, hip-hop, jazz and tap. Open to all.

Pricing: TBA.

      4. Third Saturday Volunteer Work Days

       Where/When: Lake Ridge Park, 12350 Cotton Mill Dr., Lake Ridge. June 18, 10 a.m.-noon.

      Why Go: Every 3rd Saturday of the month you can volunteer a few hours of your morning at the park. There will be indoor and outdoor projects to clean up the parks and facilities.  Be sure to call ahead to learn about receiving community service hours for various programs, though reservations are not required to volunteer.

      Pricing: Free.

      5. Self Defense for Women

      Where/When: Veterans Memorial Regional Park, 14300 Veterans Dr, Dale City. June 19, noon.

      Why Go:  Women 14 years and older are invited to come learn how to defend themselves and their families. This class emphasizes defense tactics and methods that do not require strength or agility, and real life situations will be covered throughout the course. 

      Pricing: $45 for a 90-minute class.

      FYI-Mayor Porta wanted to share that rubber duck sales through Occoquan merchants and online will end today for tomorrow's event. Rubber ducks will be on sale tomorrow until noon at the Occoquan Farmer's Market. The race starts at the foot bridge at the end of Mill Street.
