An overnight officer-involved shooting in the Mount Vernon area left one Woodbridge man dead on July 8.
Fairfax County Police said in a release that officers observed "two males acting suspiciously in the area of Frye Road and Madge Lane."
"The two officers briefly pursued the man and attempted to detain him. During the struggle the suspect produced a handgun and fired shots toward the officers," said the release. "One officer returned fire, striking the suspect. The man was transported to Inova Mount Vernon Hospital and pronounced dead a short time later. The second suspect fled on foot. Neither officer required medical treatment at the scene."
Woodbridge resident Nicholas Allen Kaelber, 21, of the 2800 block of Wakewater Way, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The two officers involved in the shooting will be placed on routine administrative leave.
