Dear Neighbors: General Assembly members are traveling to Richmond today for this afternoon's Special Legislative Session to finalize the biennial $85B budget for the Commonwealth of Virginia, which covers the two-year period from July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2014. I'm hopeful that we will complete the work today and send our budget bills to the Governor for his signature. Following today's work on the budget, we will convene tomorrow for the Constitutionally-mandated "Reconvene Session," at which we'll consider the seven vetoes and various amendments proposed by Gov. Bob McDonnell to the bills we sent him from the 2012 Regular Legislative Session of the General Assembly (that took place from January 11th to March 10th of this year). More to follow, friends!

Update at 4 PM on Wednesday, April 18th: The Senate killed the House budget for the third time on Tuesday. The way forward is not yet certain, but I will provide an update as soon as we determine the next step.

Update at 5:45 PM on Wednesday, April 18th: Under considerable public pressure, the Senate of Virginia just passed HB 1301, the two-year, $85B biennial budget that runs from Jul 1, 2012 to June 30, 2014. The bill now goes to Gov. Bob McDonnell for action. Our state budget is once again in motion and has moved from "full stop" to "drive."
