DESCRIPTION:Art making and photography are usually seen as separate modal
 ities. But\, what if you mixed the mediums? What innovations are created
 ?\nMill  Street Studio is pleased to announce the next show in it's mont
 hly  artist series. December's featured artists are Kathy Strauss and Ti
 m  Giles.\nThe show will hang December 1-31.\nAn artist's reception will
  be held on Saturday\, December 1st\, from 3pm to 5pm.\nMill  Street Stu
 dio is Occoquan's newest gallery space.&nbsp\; But\, it is more than  ju
 st a gallery\, they also offer classroom space and have instructors  tha
 t love sharing  their passions such as art\, photography\, or writing. M
 ill Street is  open Friday and Saturday\, 10am to 5pm and Sunday\, 1pm t
 o 5pm. Other  times by appointment.\nAbout the Artists\nDesigner\,  phot
 ographer\, creative coach\, artist\, teacher\, &amp\; community  volunte
 er &ndash\; each of these describes Kathy Strauss. Kathy lives in Lake  
 Ridge\, VA. She is the other half of the creative studio\, ImageWerks. H
 er  graphic design background gives her imagery a distinct clean style t
 hat  brings each image to life. Composing each shot with precision and  
 harmony &ndash\; sensitive to graphic composition and each of the core d
 esign  principles &ndash\; she&rsquo\;s always looking at what makes eac
 h scene spark and how  to connect the viewer to the piece.Kathy is a mem
 ber of the  Workhouse Associate Artists (WAA) at the Workhouse Art Cente
 r in Lorton\,  VA where she exhibits her work and is a course instructor
  through the  Workhouse Institute &amp\; ArtStar camps. She is a sought 
 after speaker  to talk about the "alchemy of art". In addition to the WA
 A\, she shows  her work at the Mill Street Studio in Occoquan\, VA\, as 
 well as various  art festivals and other galleries throughout the Washin
 gton Metropolitan  area and mid-Atlantic. Her work and business have gar
 nered numerous  awards since its beginning. She  earned her BS in Advert
 ising Design from the University of  Maryland/College Park. Kathy sits o
 n the board of directors for Project  Mend-A-House\, the Prince William 
 Library Foundation\, the Development  &amp\; Interpretation Committee fo
 r the Turning Point Suffragist Memorial  Association. Her business is a 
 member of the Prince  William Chamber of Commerce and she is a graduate

 foto.smugmug.com\n-----\nTim  Giles was born in Suffolk\, Virginia but n
 ow resides in Northern  Virginia. He is a self-taught artist as a result
  of his enjoyment of  creating art at a very early age. He uses several 
 mediums\, however\,  watercolors is his specialty. Tim has traveled exte
 nsively and lived in  several countries throughout the world (Ukraine\, 
 Haiti\, Ghana\, Angola\,  Senegal\, Nigeria\, Israel). His international
  experience allows him to  capture several scenes on canvas.Tim's inspir
 ation comes in many  forms but mainly his work is influenced by the many
  accomplishments of  the African-American. He is fascinated by mavericks
  such as Malcom X\,  Martin Luther King Jr.\, Colin Powell\, Langston Hu
 ghes\, Ray Charles\, and  Oprah Winfrey. He is currently working on a se
 ries entitled &ldquo\;The First&rdquo\;\;  commemorating pioneers such a
 s these individuals who demonstrated great  leadership and excelled with
 in their field. Tagging his style as &ldquo\;Art  with an Ole&rsquo\; Sk
 ool Flavor&rdquo\;.Tim has self-published two books\,  "Humble Beginning
 s\, A Portrait of my Journey through Paintings and  Poems" and recently\
 , a book for pre-teens and teens entitled\, "Just  Beyond the Horizon".
