Weekend Planner: Teddy Bears, Live Music, and Volunteer Opportunities

Get out this weekend with one of these events.

1.

Where/When: , 15941 Donald Curtis Dr, Woodbridge. July 9, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Why Go: Help another adult improve his/her reading and writing skills by becoming a tutor with Literacy Volunteers. There are adult students waiting to be matched to volunteer tutors. No experience is necessary. Once you have attended both this full-day workshop, and a half-day one on July 23, you will be a certified tutor. Tutors will learn how to plan lessons around a student's self-designated goals. Once trained, the volunteer tutor will be matched with an adult who wishes to learn or improve basic reading and writing skills. Continental breakfast will be served on both days and lunch will be served on the first full day.

Pricing: One-time $35 workshop fee which covers cost of materials.

Why Go: Want a feline friend? There are many cats and kittens for adoption and you can have your pick at this adoption event. All the animals are spayed/neutered and up on shots (unless too young).  Come give a cat a new home

Pricing: There is an adoption fee and a contract to sign to make sure each cat gets a good home.

Where/When: , 2001 Daniel K Ludwig Dr, Woodbridge. July 9, 5 p.m.

Why Go: Come out to the Breakwater Marina Store at Leesylvania State Park and enjoy a performance by No Charge, an acoustic duo. Bring a blanket and picnic and enjoy a wide range of covers, including country, classic rock, southern rock, Americana, and modern rock. There's something for everyone at this fun concert. Face-painting will be available for kids.

 Where/When: , 2001 Daniel K Ludwig Dr, Woodbridge. July 10, 1:30-3 p.m.

Why Go: Bring your favorite teddy bear and a pair of scissors and make blankets for children who need them for security and warmth. Picnic foods and games will be provided by the park. This event is presented in partnership with the Loudoun Chapter of Project Linus.

 Pricing: Free.

 Where/When: Dale City Commuter Lot, 14090 Gemini Way, Dale City. July 10, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Why Go: Ask a Master Gardener you gardening questions at the Dale City Farmers’ Market this Sunday morning. Check out the fresh produce, baked goods, jams, and fresh cut flower while you are at it.
