Cupcake Challenge for the Cure

Put your cupcake skills to the test and enter the Cupcake Challenge for the Cure. This free and open to the public event, will raise funds and awareness about breast cancer in Northern Virginia. The Cupcake Challenge will be held September 15, 2012 from 11-4pm at Freedom High School in Woodbridge Virginia. Amateur, pro, team, and youth are all welcome to show off their baking skills. Not a baker, no worries we are accepting professional cupcake eaters too. Are you ready for a Cupcake Smack Down?
Prince William County was chosen as a target community by Susan G. Komen, due to the alarming statistics about breast cancer prevention and care. Forever A Pear is a walking team that participates in the Susan G. Komen 3 Day 60 Mile. Funds raised will benefit Susan G. Komen 3 Day.

There will be more than just cupcakes at this event. The Vendor Mall will have over 20 local to international vendors with both familiar and eclectic merchandise. Everything from jewelry to clothes to candles, you name it, it will be there. This event will have cupcakes for sale by local bakers and here will even be a chance for you to decorate your own cupcake. Motivational speaker and former NFL player Tony Collins will be there to speak and show his support to the men that take care of the women fighting breast cancer. Tony Collins successful career was highlighted by a Pro Bowl selection in 1983, a single-game rushing record of 212 yards for the Patriots, and a trip to the Super Bowl XX. Tony has spent recent years traveling the country motivating communities to “Become What You Believe”. 
Judges at this event include Stephanie, the Cupcake Critic, who has been dubbed the Lois Lane of cupcakes; Stephanie is the creator of the DC based food blog,http://www.thecupcakecritic.com/ and a featured blogger on Washington Eats, Urban Spoon, and the mobile app UrbanDig.com. Her blog has been mentioned on The Washington Post’s TheRoot.com and she has been a featured guest on The District Dish and WLVS Radio’s Across the Fader. SGT J. Payne of the United States Army has been serving his country since 2008. SGT Payne will be putting his B.S. degree in marketing from NC A&T State University to good use when judging, being a Kapp Alpha Psi, he will be partial to anything red. When asked if he would judge, without hesitation, said “YES!” SGT Payne proudly serves our country’s’ finest as a medic on Ft Myer military base, next to Arlington Cemetery.Maria Jose Ovalle started "mommy blogging" in the UK in 2010 which won her several awards and is now on her second blog Very Busy Mamáhttp://www.verybusymamablog.com/ which is focused on life, beauty, fitness and style for moms. "Just because we are busy and on the go doesn't mean we can't look our best" says Maria. "Every woman should look and feel her best no matter her size, budget or time constraints”. Judging a cupcake contest was a no-brainer. "It's for the baby" she said with a smile. The other 3 judges will be picked from a pool of women that have been either fighting breast cancer, supporting finding a cure, or have lost a love one to breast cancer. The grand prize will be a 4 night 3 day stay in a 2 bedroom condo with full resort amenities in Williamsburg VA at a top of the line resort. There will be surprise raffles and giveaways, such as a Silpada gift certificate for $150 and a 3 night stay at Colonial Williamsburg. There is going to be something for everyone. What better way to celebrate life and defeat breast cancer!
