Youth Orchestras of Prince William to Premiere New Eric Nathan Piece

American composer Eric Nathan's work Glimpse will be performed Feb. 10 at the Hylton Performing Arts Center.

The Youth Orchestras of Prince William will present the premiere of Glimpse, a specially commissioned orchestral work by American composer Eric Nathan, at 4 p.m. on Feb. 10 in Merchant Hall at the Hylton Performing Arts Center.

The Youth Symphony Orchestra will perform the piece, composed to celebrate the orchestra's upcoming performance at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

"The inspiration for Glimpse came from a stroll in New York City’s Riverside Park and aims to capture all that happens in a single fleeting moment," a Youth Orchestras of Prince William release read.

Nathan's compositions have been featured at the Aldeburgh Music Festival, Shanghai Conservatory New Music Week, Composers Now Festival, 2012 World Music Days in Belgium and on NPR's "From the Top."

"I am thrilled to have the YOPW's Youth Symphony Orchestra premiere Glimpse, and to have them perform the work on their New York City tour," Nathan said.

YOPW Music Director John Devlin has collaborated with Nathan on previous compositions.

"Eric has a talent for writing pieces that are accessible to young people, and of the highest level of artistic and creative achievement," he said. "It is a truly exciting work and one I am thrilled to be able to present to the audiences in Virginia and in New York."

The concert will also feature YOPW's Wind Symphony. To buy tickets, visit the box office or HyltonCenter.org. To learn more about YOPW, visit http://www.yopwva.org
