2nd & Charles Summer Camp to Promote Reading

2nd & Charles is hosting a Family Fun Camp this July to promote children's reading.

Each Saturday, a themed story time from 2 to 4 p.m. will draw kids in the area.

“We hope that by visiting our stores, kids will pick out books for fun,” said Eric Bishop, Vice President of 2nd & Charles.  “The vast array of informational material we have in stock often sparks the interest of young readers.”

2nd & Charles is a large used bookstore in Woodbridge that replaced the Borders on Prince William Parkway. It boasts over 300,000 items in stock.

"Studies show that children who don’t read over the summer tend to lose literacy skills, while children who do read during the summer actually improve their reading ability," a 2nd & Charles statement read.

Story time is 2 to 4 p.m. on the following dates. All story time descriptions are from the 2nd & Charles release.

July 6, Superhero Saturday

Kids are encouraged to flex their crime-fighting muscles and show off their super powers during storytime. Each participant will create their own top-secret superhero identity.

July 13, Safari Saturday

Participants will learn about exciting animals, test their fun animal facts and take home their own animal puppet.

July 20, Summertime Adventure Saturday

Children will enjoy a scavenger hunt contest and have the opportunity to make their own travel journal.

July 27, Scrumdiddlyumptious Saturday

Guests are invited to a Mad Hatter tea party featuring storytime, silly hats and fun games.
