Local Children's Author Holds Premiere Book Signing in Occoquan

Salt and Pepper Bookstore held book signing for Rachel Goad, author of "Joshua Jenkins and the Cookie Jar Conundrum," on Aug. 20 from 1 to 4 p.m.

Woodbridge children's author Rachel Goad enthusiastically greeted guests at the premiere book signing of “Joshua Jenkins and the Cookie Jar Conundrum,” on Aug. 20 at Salt & Pepper Books in Occoquan.

In “The Cookie Jar Conundrum,” the clever Joshua must overcome all obstacles to reach his singular goal- the cookie jar.

Though "Conundrum" is Goad's first published work, she is proposing a sequel that would introduce children to new vocabulary.

“I just love vocabulary,” said Goad. “I have an idea for a title for the next couple of books, but I’m not going to reveal it yet.”

Goad said she signed approximately 50 copies of her book, but was most touched by hearing a father read the work aloud to his daughter.

Goad’s niece and nephew, for whom she wrote the tale, were present Saturday along with other family and friends.

Store owner Christine Myskowski said Goad’s book was a perfect fit for her food-themed bookstore.

I so appreciate Rich Anderson's presence on this committee. My biggest question is why didn't anyoneRead More have a plan for jobs to take effect if these cuts happened. Did anyone calculate the expense to the economy that would occur from Sequestration or plan to offset that expense?

Stopped by for lunch yesterday and had the turkey-avocado BLT with sweet tea and fries -- delicious.Read More Dave and Eric, the new managers, are good, hardworking guys who I wish all the best in their new venture. As Earnie said, Dave and Sarah have developed a diverse and interesting menu, with some pleasant surprise offerings, the prices are reasonable and they're going to be open seven days a week for breakfast to dinner, something many other Occoquan restaurants don't do. Give them a try, and tell them Chuck the Foodie sent you.
