Flood Victims Still Need Help

How you can assist the individuals and families affected by flooding from Sept. 8.

  • From Prince William County government:

It is commonly said that Americans come together and support each other in times of tragedy. That reality was borne out here in Prince William County following the recent flooding from Tropical Storm Lee that upturned the lives of so many families in the community.

Several different agencies collaborated to meet the needs of those families. Many residents received services from the American Red Cross, ACTS, SERVE, Volunteer Prince William, and other local charitable organizations. First Mount Zion Baptist Church offered their church to shelter those displaced from their homes after the community shelters had to be closed. A number of the faith-based communities in Prince William County stepped up to provide assistance to the families in need. Additionally, there has been a great deal of support from Prince William County Government, Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS), local businesses, and individuals throughout the County.

SPARK, the Education Foundation for PWCS, has been the repository for monetary donations and is pleased to report that approximately $75,000 has been collected to date. This collaboration of nonprofit agencies has done a needs-based assessment and will provide these funds, through ACTS and SERVE, to those most affected. These two agencies are uniquely qualified to help families in need of permanent housing. Beginning October 11, these two agencies will be positioned to continue the process of finding permanent housing solutions for those displaced by the flood. Their contact information is below:
