This Week at the Smart Markets Lorton Farmers' Market

Join us today for the opening of a new farmers' market in Lorton.

Smart Markets announces a new farmers’ market for southern Fairfax County and the Woodbridge/Lake Ridge areas of Prince William County. Hosted by the Lorton Workhouse Arts Center, this will be this area’s first afternoon market, open Thursdays from 3:30–7:00pm. This is a guaranteed producer-only market highlighting locally grown produce, unadulterated country eggs, and naturally raised, free-range meats.

Smart Markets is committed to supporting locally based food entrepreneurs, and this market will include authentic South American empanadas (meat-filled pastries) and alfajores (shortbread cookies with dulce de leche filling); Celtic pasties in a variety of flavors; creative salad dressings; and sweet and savory snack mixes. We are also thrilled to host Uncle Fred’s BBQ — responsible for a market-long waiting line at our Reston market — and also to have Great Harvest Bread Company for your pleasure and convenience. We are proud to have Blenheim Organic Gardens from the Northern Neck, one of the few certified organic farms participating in Northern Virginia markets. And wait till you try the Bolivian chocolate! We have relaxed our all-local rule to permit this chocolate, which is grown by small, free-trade farmers — extending our support of small farming a little farther afield.

We will also have Uncle Fred’s BBQ for take-home or dining at the market. Picnic tables will be available for an al fresco meal.
