Occoquan Dam Siren

Fairfax Water has installed sirens in the Town of Occoquan and along the Occoquan River shoreline to warn people in the highly unlikely event that there is ever a massive failure of the Occoquan River Dam. Fairfax Water does not expect to ever have to use the siren; however, they must do an audible test of the siren to ensure that it works. They've scheduled that audible test for Thursday, Dec. 13 at 10 a.m. as part of a full scale emergency operations exercise they are doing. If you live within range of the sirens, you should have received a postcard from Fairfax Water within the past few weeks alerting you to the test. However, if you did not receive the postcard or you are a resident who lives outside the range, more information is available at www.occoquandamsiren.com

VCE-Prince William Extension Leadership Council Needs YOU!

Want to volunteer for two major universities, Virginia Tech and Virginia State, in your community? The VCE-Prince William Extension Leadership Council needs you.

Virginia Cooperative Extension (VCE) enables people to improve their lives through an educational process that uses scientific knowledge focused on issues and needs. VCE's most valuable connections to local communities are through representative groups known as Extension Leadership Councils (ELC). VCE-Prince William Extension programs include Nutrition Education, Parent Education, Financial Education and Housing Counseling, 4H Youth Development and Environment and Natural Resources.

The mission of the local ELC is to advance and promote Virginia Cooperative Extension's programs and presence in the local community. Areas of focus include relationship building, Extension advocacy, and program advisement and support. ELC involvement in these activities ensures that the Extension's efforts remain relevant to the community.

The membership of the ELC represents the diversity of the community. The local membership consists of representatives from the 7 magisterial districts of Prince William County, the City of Manassas, and the City of Manassas Park, and local Virginia Cooperative Extension Staff.

Supervisor May's Constituent Service Facebook Page

Please be sure to check out our new Facebook page the next time you log on. While I've always used Facebook personally and politically, recently I've found that many constituents want to contact me for constituent services on Facebook as well.  As a result, we have created a special page designed specifically for constituent services. If you "like" this page, you will be able keep up with what's going on around the district, ask questions and even ask for help if you need it. Please be sure to check it out at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Supervisor-MikeMay/122519247895858!

Thanks for reading our E-Update! If you would like to receive these E-Updates directly to your email, please contact Alyssa at aedson@pwcgov.org or call 703-792-5180. As always, if we can ever be of service to you, please do not hesitate to contact us by email, phone, or Facebook.

Best regards,
Mike May, Occoquan District Supervisor
