BOCS Declares May 2 Crossing Guard Appreciation Day

The Crossing Guard Bureau is part of the Police Department.

On May 1, the Board of County Supervisors proclaimed May 2 to be Crossing Guard Appreciation Day in Prince William County.

"During the school year, student pedestrian safety is the primary mission for the nearly 90 adult School Crossing Guards in Prince William County," police spokesperson Jonathan Perok said. "Every school day, these highly dedicated men and women are in the street protecting our children and training them in pedestrian safety."

The Crossing Guard Bureau falls under the Police Department.

“As the Crossing Guard program observes its 47th anniversary this year,” Chief of Police Charlie Deane said, “Prince William County is fortunate to have professional school crossing guards who, by temperament and training, are fully prepared to meet the challenges of protecting our school children.”
