Haymarket Man Dies in Apparent Lake Ridge Suicide

The man drove to the area of Deepford Drive and Oakwood Drive before shooting himself near the reservoir.

On Aug. 12, Haymarket resident David Wayne Baumgardner was found dead of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound near the Occoquan Reservoir.

After the 41-year-old man told family members earlier that evening that he was suicidal and had driven to Lake Ridge, the family reported it to police. Police found the man's vehicle empty in the area of Deepford Drive and Oakwood Drive.

After a search with a Fairfax County Police helicopter and Prince William County K-9 unit, a PWC K-9 officer found the body "in a remote area near the reservoir," according to the police report.
