Manassas Woman Arrested for Assaulting a Police Officer in Lake Ridge

The woman was arrested and placed in handcuffs after the incident on June 8.

Michelle Renee Merritt, 35, of Manassas was arrested and charged with assault and battery against a police officer shortly after midnight on June 8 in Lake Ridge, according to police spokesperson Jonathan Perok.

Police stopped Merritt as she was driving in the 12600 block of Dara Drive. She immediately leaped out of her car and attacked the police, officers reported.

The police asked her to return to her vehicle, but she ignored them and "pushed and swung" at them, according to the police report. She continued to fight as the officers tried to take her into custody.

"After a brief struggle," they put her in handcuffs, police reported. No one was injured in the struggle.

Merritt was charged with assault and battery on a law enforcement officer and obstruction of justice. Her court date and bond information is unavailable.
