Officer Yung Crash: Reckless Driving Trial Slated for Next Week

Officer Chris Yung died in a fatal crash last December. The other driver is accused of reckless driving.

A reckless driving trial is scheduled to begin next week in the Dec. 31 crash that ended in the death of Prince William County Police Officer Chris Yung.

Margaret Luecke, 70, of Gainesville, was driving the Dodge Caravan that allegedly pulled out in front of Yung's motorcycle Dec. 31, according to court documents. Her trial is slated for two days, beginning July 15. A grand jury indicted Leuecke on Feb. 4.

Luecke's attorney filed a motion in June to have the trial moved outside of Prince William County, saying that Luecke could not get a fair trial in part because of the extensive media coverage of Officer Yung's death. A judge denied the motion, but Luecke's attorney may renew it if jury selection does not provide any impartial jurors.

Before the wreck, Yung, 35, was driving his motorcycle to respond to a traffic accident. Authorities said that he was driving through a green light on Nokesville Road in Bristow, with his sirens and lights on, when the Dodge Caravan crossed into his path.
