Police: Elderly Woman Injured After Teen Stole Purse

A police K-9 was able to find the suspect, according to Prince William County Police. The victim reported minor injuries.

A teenage boy hit an elderly woman in the face as she was leaving a grocery store, then stole her purse after knocking her to the ground, Prince William County Police said.

The 16-year-old male—whose name was not released because of his age—is charged with robbery after the incident at the Food Lion on Jefferson Davis Highway in Woodbridge August 9.

A 71-year-old Woodbridge woman told police that the suspect had struck her as she was leaving the store around 5:43 p.m. After the woman fell to the ground, the suspect stole the woman's purse and fled on foot, said police spokesman Officer Jonathan Perok. A police K-9 and handler were able to find the suspect near Kentucky Avenue and Arkansas Street.

The victim reported minor injuries. The suspect is held at the Juvenile Detention Center pending his court date.
