Police: Pedestrian and Dog Killed in Spriggs Road Crash

Police said that they believed the man was trying to catch his runaway dog.

A 56-year-old Woodbridge man and a dog were struck by a car in the 14300 block of Spriggs Road Friday night.

Prince William County Police responded to the area on Spriggs Road Friday at 7:08 p.m. where an investigation showed "a driver of a 2012 Mazda 3 was traveling southbound on Spriggs Road near Lindendale Road and struck a pedestrian who was attempting to cross over Spriggs Road at the same time."

Prince William County Police spokesperson Jonathan Perok said in a release the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

"It is believed the pedestrian was attempting to catch his dog that had run away," said Perok in a news release. "The dog was also struck and killed in the opposite lanes on Spriggs Road by an unrelated vehicle. The pedestrian was in an unlit area of Spriggs Road at the time of the collision."

Perok said "drugs, alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in this crash. The driver was not determined to be at fault in the crash and was not charged."

Police have identified the pedestrian as Erwin Jose Valdez Perez, 56, of Woodbridge. The driver of the 2010 Mazda 3 was identified as a 19-year-old Woodbridge woman, according to police.

You can see how dark the area is by the picture above! Wow, prayers goes out to everyone invovled including the Mazda driver she will need it. To the driver who hit the dog shame on you for not stopping.
