String of Burglaries in Lake Ridge Neighborhood

Two burglaries and one attempt occurred in the same neighborhood.

On Jan. 3, police were called to the 11900 block of Oakwood Dr in Lake Ridge for two burglaries, and one burglary attempt.

The first burglary happened sometime between 10:15 p.m. on Jan. 2 and 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 3. The burglar forced a side door open, and escaped with jewelry worth about $250.

The second burglary occurred on Jan. 3 between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. where again, the burglar forced entry through a side door and made off with about $4,000 worth of jewelry.

The burglary attempt occurred on Jan. 3 between 5 a.m. and 4 p.m. where the chosen route of entry for the burglar was once again a broken side door, however, a deadbolt prevented a full on break in from happening. Although no items were reported missing, the damage to the door is estimated to be about $200.

All burglaries occurred within the same block on Oakwood Dr.

According to a press release from Prince William County police, residents are strongly urged to secure the deadbolts on all exterior doors. If residents have alarm systems, it is also encouraged that they are armed when the residence is unoccupied.
