Dog Dies After Dorothy B. Catches Fire at Hoffmaster's Marina

Occoquan-Woodbridge-Lorton and Dale City both sent volunteer fire and rescue units. The Prince William County Department of Fire and Rescue and Fairfax County Fire and Rescue's Boat 420 also responded to the fire.

A dog died on board the Dorothy B. after the boat caught fire late last night at Hoffmaster's Marina at 1214 Swan Point Road near Lake Ridge. A witness called in the name of the boat to Lake Ridge Patch.

OWL volunteer fire engines 502 and 514 responded within minutes.

When they arrived, they "found heavy fire from the port side of a boat, extending through the top deck," said OWL Public Relations Specialist Rebecca Barnes. "The fire had also spread to the canopy covering the dock, melting a hole in the aluminum roof."

One crew attacked the fire on the boat itself, while also protecting neighboring boats. Another crew focused on the fire on the dock canopy, while making sure it also did not spread.

"Fire Boat 502 established a perimeter to check for hazardous materials leaking from the boat and provide a means of safety for the engine crews working on the dock," Barnes said. "The fire was contained mostly to the midsection of the original boat with minor heat damage to a second boat. The fire was under control within 12 minutes."
