UPDATE: Police Shoot Woodbridge Armed Burglary Suspect

The adult male suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

UPDATE: The suspect involved in was shot by police after he reportedly advanced on the officers while armed with a handgun, police spokesperson Jonathan Perok announced.

"The suspect, an adult male, was pronounced dead at the scene," Perok said.

Police K-9 units initially tracked the suspect to a wooded ravine near the Northbound Jefferson Davis Highway. Police reported that the suspect would not put down his handgun or obey any police commands.

No officers were injured, and the weapon was secured soon after the suspect was down. Rescue arrived a few moments later and pronounced the suspect dead.

The armed burglary happened earlier today at 11:47 a.m. in the 1500 block of Indiana Drive in Woodbridge. Police found the suspect vehicle at 1:39 p.m. in the 18200 block of Old Triangle Road in Triangle. When PWC and Dumfries Town police tried to stop the vehicle, the suspect (a passenger in the vehicle), jumped out of the car and fled the scene on foot.

Police from both PWC and Dumfries chased the subject, but did not find him initially. The driver was arrested on scene without incident.

At this time, the Jefferson Davis Highway, or Route 1, will be closed in the northbound direction at Bradys Hill Road for an indefinite amount of time. Drivers should find alternate routes.

ORIGINAL STORY: An armed burglary that began in Woodbridge ended with shots fired in Dumfries Wednesday. 

Police have not released details about the incident and the suspect involved, but initial reports suggest that reports of a burglary on Indiana Avenue in Woodbridge’s state streets section came in after noon. 

Insidenova.com reports that officers located suspects in the burglary in a car on Old Triangle Road in the Dumfries area.

As a result of police activity in the area, Prince William County Schools put Rippon Middle School, about a mile from Indiana Avenue, under “secure-the-building” mode. The precaution was lifted from the school at about 2 p.m.

Police scanner traffic indicated that shots were fired in a wooded area of Route 1 in Dumfries near Cooper Corvette.

Route 1 northbound in Dumfries has been closed between the Dumfries-Triangle Volunteer Fire Department and Graham Park Road for the investigation.
