October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month
The Prince William County Police Department receives about 1,300 calls related to domestic violence every year.
The Prince William Board of County Supervisors voted last week to proclaim October Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
The local action coincides with the federal commemoration of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, first observed in 1989, according to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. The Prince William County Police Department receives 1,300 calls per year related to domestic violence.
A representative from ACTS Turning Points Domestic Violence Program was on hand to speak about domestic violence. The Board urged residents to support ACTs and the Prince William Sexual and Domestic Violence Prevention Council.
