"Muffins with Mom" Celebrates Her Special Day

Antietam Elementary recognizes moms with special breakfast.

In honor of Mother's Day, Antietam Elementary held its annual Muffins with Mom on May 9, from 8-8:35 a.m. This event is a favorite of the mothers at Antietam. It is an opportunity to sit and talk with their  kids, and catch up with friends, while enjoying a breakfast they did not have to prepare.

"Parents are such a vital part of children's success, and we love welcoming them to the school every chance we get," Antietam PTA President Kristina Kotlus said.

Run by dad volunteers from the PTA, this event gives them a chance to give back to the moms who do so much to support the school. In preparation for this crowd, the PTA purchased 30 dozen muffins and eight gallons of orange juice. Kotlus estimated that attendance at the event was easily 300.

This event also provides an opportunity to hold elections for the incoming PTA board. Veronica Price, Tara Jennings-May, Robin Hartshorn and Angela Morlu, were elected President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer, respectively, for the 2011-2012 school year.
