Prince William County Schools Almost Out Of Snow Days

If school is canceled for another day and postponed for another half day, the school system will have no hours left to lose before it has to extend the school year or make other systemwide changes.

Prince William County Schools are about 1 1⁄2 days above the state's minimum requirement of instructional hours.

There have been six closures due to inclement weather and three delays or early releases so far this winter.Β  That leaves the school system with nine extra hours in school instruction.

The state requires 180 school days each year or 990 instructional hours. PWCS approved 182 school days plus a parent-teacher conference at the elementary level and 183 school days at the secondary level.

If school is closed two more days, then the school year will either be extended or administrators will make other changes to regain the lost instructional hours to meet the state requirements.
