Weekend Planner: World War II Weekend, Sunset Paddle Tour

Make some plans this weekend in Lake Ridge and beyond: 

  1. Make plans outdoors for what looks to be a beautiful weekend with sunny skies both days and temperatures on reaching a high of 80 degrees Saturday and 85 degrees Sunday.
  2. On Saturday, tour a project to upgrade old storm water facilities in Prince William County. The tour from the Prince William Conservation Alliance is next to Mullen Elementary School from 10 a.m. to noon at 8000 Rodes Drive in Manassas. More information.
  3. It’s World War II weekend at the Rippon Lodge Historic Site in Woodbridge. Learn about the daily life of World War II soldiers from historians and view collections of original artifacts. The free event is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday on 15520 Blackburn Road. More information.
  4. Watch some model trains this weekend at the Central Community Library. The event is at 10 a.m. at the library on 8601 Mathis Avenue in Manassas. The event is free. View details.
  5. Check out a Sunset Paddle Tour at Fountainhead Regional Park at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday at the park at 5400 Ox Road. Reservations are required, please call 703-250-9124. More information
  6. Maroon 5 and Kelly Clarkson of our powerful pop tour combo at the Jiffy Lube Amphitheater on Friday night. The popular band’s latest hit is “Love Somebody,” while Clarkson is touring in support of her recent “Greatest Hits” album. $46. 7 p.m. 7800 Cellar Door Drive, Bristow.
  7. Books will be flying off the shelf at Potomac Community Library all this weekend — for a good cause. The library is hosting its book sale through Sunday, with used books, magazines, and audiovisual materials. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. 2201 Opitz Blvd.
  8. It’s a good time for a good cause at the Black Tie ^Breast Optional Gala Fundraiser on Saturday at Harris Pavilion in Manassas. Proceeds support The Ann Clarke Dollard Memorial Foundation that provides daily assistance to those battling cancer. $75. 7 p.m. Harris Pavilion, 9201 Center Street, Manassas.
