Patch file photo of McDonnell introducing Mitt Romney.
rbud April 23, 2014 at 06:25 pm
The wealthy and powerful protecting their own. McDonnell made a shameful mess of the VA gov'sRead More office, a hurt that may last for decades. He ought to take his licks and move on, begging forgiveness from the electorate.
Frederick C. Cassiday April 24, 2014 at 08:43 am
Ex Gov. Transvaginal needs to man up and take his punishment, which is the public spectacle of aRead More corruption trial without getting funds from every foolish political supporter to line his lawyers pockets.
Express Lanes on Interstate 95 'On Track' for 2015 Opening. Source: vamegaprojects.com
Sarah April 22, 2014 at 01:26 pm
The current "express lanes" in Virginia are a big flop. I travel 95 in Virginia weekly andRead More see 1 or 2 or even 3 or 4 vehicles using the "express lanes." What a gaint waste of taxpayer money.
Antje W. April 22, 2014 at 03:25 pm
I concur with Don and Sarah! Absolutely correct. The biggest waste of taxpayer money I've seen forRead More this year. Nobody is crying foul now - but let the EZPass come into effect and we will see congestion on I-95 that will surpass anything we are experiencing right now. Hmmm, come to think of it: What about the one lane that should still carry HOV, but requires an EZPass transponder? What a gimmick: Now all HOV users pay in one form or another. On another note: how fast will this HOV lane be when only one lane is available? Who in his right mind wants to use this lane? From a marketing strategy pretty clever: HOV users will flock to get an EZPass and eventually HOV will be eliminated. Thank you, Governor McDonnell, for kicking Virginians were it hurts! What a way to leave the office by selling us out to the highest bidder!

Why, oh why, was this money not spent on extending Metro, so that cars, traffic, etc. would beRead More unnecessary? Metro runs around its own little DC enclave. (Yeah, it's coming to Tysons and Reston... the 1% again.) The VRE is a monstrous joke... limited hours, limited stops, unlimited charges... Not being able to get to DC easily cuts down on a lot of employment opportunities! BTW, I have yet to figure out where all the cars using I95 park when they get to DC.... Are these the literati using the govt. lots?
Gay marriage in Virginia.

No Angel, society is ripping itself apart by encouraging a immoral, teen pregnancy, single mothersRead More who cannot provide for their babies, do whatever feels good and the government will support you so long as you vote democratic, hopeless way of life. Any good contractor knows that you have to tear down the old before you can build the new. Problem is that the new that the left wants to build HAS NEVER, AND NEVER WILL SUCCEED. It has been tried before, and the sin always corrupts from the inside out. I know that the traditional, patriot like myself will never succeed against the lust of evil that has taken over the lifestyles of America. The Holy Bible tells us that we will be persecuted for his name sake, that their will be a great falling away from the Church right before the end of the Church Age. In a strange way, I am excited about the deviancy you promote, because the mere fact that it is being accepted is proof positive that the Rapture is imminent. You keep referring to the end of outlawing mixed race marriages like it somehow pertains to the deviant unions you seem to want. Mixed marriages between black and white people were not outlawed in the Bible, only between different races that practiced pagan religions, because they would draw the children of Israel away from the one true God. The lure of deviancy is strong, homosexual prostitutes would practice their trade on the temple steps of the pagans. They would burn their babies alive in a sacrifice to Baal. Seeing mass groups of people doing these deviant acts somehow convinces the masses that it is acceptable. The homosexual community is using the same tactics that the worshipers of Baal used. Just as you think you are winning, God will pull the rug out from under you. Come to Jesus while you still can. He can heal your sickness.
Angel Lazo April 13, 2014 at 10:11 pm
Jeff, and that's why we have the separation of Church and State so you can believe what you want andRead More others can believe what they want.
Pamela Findley April 16, 2014 at 10:59 am
Natassia, not all LGBT want to eliminate or "fundamentally destroy" the institution ofRead More marriage. You really can't lump all homosexuals together, just as you can't lump all heterosexuals together. I know lesbian and gay couples who are married and treasure the institution of marriage. I also know heterosexual couples who are not married and don't believe in marriage. Recognizing the rights of LGBT people to marry, with all the rights and responsibilities thereof, does not equate with destroying marriage any more than interracial marriages have destroyed it. From a religious perspective, each person and each church/denomination can and should decide whether to recognize and/or perform such marriages. I personally believe God does not condemn LGBT unions. From a legal perspective, I have yet to hear a good argument against same-sex marriages.

No Kathy, all he did was file a brief, which is what lawyers do. By your estimation, defense lawyersRead More are building the constitution. Please consult a news source for your information.

Raconteur March 30, 2014 at 10:35 AM No, It shows how willing he is to please his masters and voteRead More on anything they tell him to, no matter how badly it will affect the People. ___________________________________________________ Again, and he is unique in that respect because...it is unusual for a politician to vote along party lines? ___________________________________________________ Name one congresscritter who claimed they read the legislation before they voted for it. __________________________________________________ _ Er, your burden. You make the claim, you provide the evidence. You claimed that NO one had read it. "Name one congresscritter who claimed that they had read the Patriot Act before they voted for it." is as vacuous. ___________________________________________________ "They have. Reid won't let the legislation even be discussed and certainly won't let it be brought to the Senate floor. Just because you didn't hear it on MSNBC or SNL, you believe otherwise." ___________________________________________________ LOL. The House has repealed Obamacare 50 times. How many times have they passed this legislation that Reid has prevented discussion in the ... wait, Reid cannot prevent discussion in the House, can he? And it is not as if the House wingnuts care whether or not Reid would allow a vote. So, what are the salients points other than "free market solutions"?

Mark Warner is nothing but a rich guy that does whatever Obama wants. He has no independent thoughtRead More of his own. Hey Mark I thought you said we could keep our insurance plans? Tell us some more lies.
Snow Plow Locator: Find the Truck in Your Neighborhood
VABUCKI March 3, 2014 at 04:58 pm
Nice APP but it doesn't help anyone in Fairfax City. It does help FX County, however. My road wasRead More plowed last during the previous storm and it looks like we are trending for the same with this one. I'll expect the trucks around midnight to 1AM
Marya Fitzgerald March 4, 2014 at 08:45 am
I live in the Del Ray section of Alexandria. Just as in the last storm, there is NO salt or sand onRead More my road, which is a thru street to Jeff Davis Hiway! I saw one plow go by yesterday with its scooper up. Only the hundreds of cars using it have packed the surface down to a couple of inches of ice! It is not safe to walk across it.
The so-called "revenge porn" legislative proposal by Del. Marcus Simon (Va.-53) is closer to becoming a reality after House and Senate passage.
Emmette Coleman March 14, 2014 at 11:09 pm
Posting pornography of others without their consent should be illegal, regardless of whether saidRead More pornography would constitute "revenge porn". It doesn't make that that much difference whether or not it's "revenge porn", that should probably at most that should be an aggravating circumstance. "Revenge porn" or not, just don't go posting pornography of someone without his consent.
Laurie McCabe April 11, 2014 at 01:32 am
Neil Fox is an ignorant pig ... just like is anyone seeking revenge by damaging a person's life inRead More this way ... we criminalize things that are immoral; evil; malicious; deceitful; etc.
Laurie McCabe April 11, 2014 at 01:33 am
I can hardly wait for July 1, 2014 when lakemonster is charged here in VA Beach.
Gov. Terry McAuliffe signed legislation Wednesday to repeal the $64 Hybrid Tax.
John Strother February 28, 2014 at 11:23 am
As I understood it hybrids don't pay enough taxes to support the roads, which comes from theRead More gasoline usage. I have a hybrid, I don't drive much. I have a lawn mower, chain saw and other yard items that use gasoline that don't use the roads. It did not make sense for me to pay extra for my hybrid because I get 30 MPG and others only get 18 MPG. We pay taxes on tires that support the roads also. Oil Changes too. I'll bet also for the weight of my Hybrid, I pay a certain tax also. I really felt it was to pay for the use of HOV lanes and one had to have a special license plate to use those lanes, I don't have those plates and still had to pay. I had figured it was the cost of living in a modern world. If you want Modern, you must pay according for being Modern. My Hybrid, I must admit, is the only real modern thing I own.
Raul Ortega March 2, 2014 at 08:55 am
Oh, I read through all your comments yesterday DRB and there is no denying it, something about youRead More is whacked brah.
DRB March 2, 2014 at 04:20 pm
I'm sure you mean that in the more modern colloquial. Thanks. So it sounds like you may be able toRead More start your recovery and join the fight against Liberalism as your eyes become open. I will pray for the word to be in you.
Diana March 3, 2014 at 10:25 am
Why have the constitution if all we do is change and destroy the true laws of what should be betweenRead More man and women? I don't believe in same-sex marriage and their "benefits" tied to this. You give them a piece of the law and they are wanting more. I am sick of seeing the drag shows (this should be on late night after 11:00pm) then always hearing the coming outs. Are you suppose to get an award for this? Please I truly believe homosexuals are destroying the laws that are ment to be between man and women only.
Subcommittee votes down penalty for opening a car door that injures a passing cyclist. Patch file photo.
Phillip Cide February 25, 2014 at 03:50 pm
Just curious. Who is at fault if a driver opens a car door and a moving car hits it?
Ignatius J. Reilly February 25, 2014 at 05:12 pm
Huh, what? Oh sorry, didn't see you there, I was on my phone.
Kasha Williamson February 26, 2014 at 06:40 pm
How is a cyclist supposed to be able to see if someone is in the car about to open their door?Read More Whereas someone in their car can do a quick lookback to ensure it is safe to open - just as they would if a car was coming.

Barbara...are you kidding me with those citations, right?....Frank S. Myers, a First-ClassRead More Postmaster in Portland, Oregon, was removed from office by President Woodrow Wilson. An 1876 federal law provided that "Postmasters of the first, second, and third classes shall be appointed and may be removed by the President with the advice and consent of the Senate." Myers argued that his dismissal violated this law, and he was entitled to back pay for the unfilled portion of his four-year term......You are equating the removal of a postmaster by the President to the Attorney General of the United States telling state AGs not to defend laws they don't like?....WOW, that's stretching it don't you think?...and of course, it had to involve the most socialistic former President this country has ever had the displeasure of electing (except for the current one, of course)Then you site a tax judge appointment ruling. BUT THE ONE THAT REALLY GETS ME is the Youngstown Sheet & Tube Co. v. Sawyer case...Justice Black wrote for the majority, although the number of divergent concurring opinions made it clear that he did not necessarily speak for it. Black took, as he often did, an absolutist view, holding that THE PRESIDENT HAD NO POWER to act except in those cases expressly or implicitly authorized by the Constitution or an act of Congress...Keep trying to justify the unlawfulness of this and I'll keep holding the rule of law at the ready. Maybe you should actually READ the opinions next time.
Barbara Glakas February 27, 2014 at 05:23 pm
It doesn't really matter what I say, right?
Ray Wedell February 27, 2014 at 06:28 pm
Side note on Woodrow Wilson. Once he took office, his own paranoia and love of power turned him intoRead More a tyrant. He was responsible for the Sedition Act, which Chris Hedges has cited as ending real progressive politics in the USA as we know it. Wilson locked up many of those who were his supporters a mere year earlier (when he won election against a split Republican ticket by lying to the American people that he would not enter WWI when he already had plans drafted to do so). Hedges has also compared Obama's paranoia and use of EO's, the drones, the NSA stuff, etc. to Wilson. So someone may be a "liberal" in words and maybe even private thoughts. Once they take office, it can be a different story, but one nobody wants to see clearly. Wielding universal power to accomplish that which many may agree with is not "liberal" nor "progressive." Nor is it the right thing to do.

I just called 211 to get help for a disabled friend in shoveling out her car from under a foot ofRead More snow in Reston. The person INSISTED I call 511, which is road conditions. That number put me into an endless loop to get tourist info for Prince William County. TOTALLY USELESS and my friend is a heart attack survivor with severe arthritis and I cannot get to her to help her. Wow. Just wow.
