Volunteers can come to Town Hall at 9 a.m.
Please remember that this Saturday, April 27, is the date of the Friends of theOccoquan (FOTO) spring clean-up, and the Town of Occoquan is again one of the host locations. Volunteers can come to the Occoquan Town Hall from 9 a.m. to noon to pick up gloves, bags, and other clean-up supplies. Every year volunteers from this event provide a valuable service to the town, helping us to pick up trash and debris in otherwise hard-to-service areas. If you can spare some time, please consider coming out on Saturday.
Erick Blackwelder weighs in on the state of real estate.
You may have a harder time than you'd think finding a home in Woodbridge, real estate blogger Erick Blackwelder writes in his latest blog post for Patch. "The long recession that lasted from 2006 to 2012 lulled a lot of folks into the reality that we had more houses for sale than buyers to buy them," Blackwelder writes. "That changed in early 2013. We don't have enough homes to meet demand. Bidding wars are common." To read more, and to find out how much your house would sell for, read Blackwelder's full post. Want to blog on Patch? David and Sarah DeVight own the restaurant which replaced the Garden Kitchen.
From Occoquan Mayor Earnie Porta's email newsletter: Today, April 8, is the opening of Occoquan's Secret Garden Cafe at 404 Mill Street. As I reported last week, our friends Shar and Marie Claire Kundu, operators of Occoquan's Garden Kitchen restaurant since 1990, recently retired. They have sold their restaurant business to David and Sarah DeVight, who some of you in Occoquan may know. I had the pleasure this past weekend of attending a food-tasting preview at the Secret Garden Cafe. The food was unequivocally excellent and reasonably priced. David and Sarah have put together a menu that is not available elsewhere in Occoquan, combining some old favorites with Asian fusion selections. Additionally, they are renovating both the …

Stopped by for lunch yesterday and had the turkey-avocado BLT with sweet tea and fries -- delicious. Dave and Eric, the new managers, are good, hardworking guys who I wish all the best in their new venture. As Earnie said, Dave and Sarah have developed a diverse and interesting menu, with some pleasant surprise offerings, the prices are reasonable and they're going to be open seven days a week …   more ›
