Black Friday: Traffic, Parking and Transit at Potomac Mills Mall

Here's the rundown on how to get in and get out.

Arrive early and take advantage of the valet parking just outside of the mall entrance near the newly opened Cheesecake Factory.  If you don…

Small Business Saturday Preview: Salt & Pepper Books

The independent bookstore specializing in cookbooks and cookware will likely see a bump in holiday traffic.

After the mad rush on Black Friday, Occoquan merchants like Salt & Pepper Books owner Christine Myskowski want shoppers to remember the small business community in Occoquan on Small Business Saturday on Nov. 24.  Occoquan merchants can't compete with Black Friday sales, but Myskowski thinks that's a good thing.  "This is a unique town and we can’t compete with those kinds of bargain deals that people get on Black Friday, because these are such small shops," she said. "I think people come here for a different reason. People are always more relaxed when they get here.” Myskowski doesn't rely as much on holiday traffic now that her business is more established.  "But holidays are a bump up, that's for sure," she said. Small Business Saturday …

Beat the Crowds During Black Friday

A few tips on beating the traffic while holiday shopping during Black Friday weekend.

This year, about 147 million people plan to go shopping during the Black Friday weekend, according to a recent National Retail Federation survey. The survey shows a slight decrease from last year’s 152 million who planned to shop during the same weekend. With that said, shopaholics everywhere are …

Walmart, Other Retailers to Start Black Friday Sales on Thanksgiving Day

Target, Kmart included in turkey day sales. Is it too early to start Black Friday shopping on Thanksgiving Day?

If you have a black belt in Black Friday shopping, listen up: Woodbridge big-box retailers are gearing up to dazzle bargain hunters even earlier this year—starting Thanksgiving Day, right after you put away the pumpkin pie. Walmart, Target and Kmart are planning all-out holiday shopping assaults. Why doze off in a turkey slump watching football when you can be out taking care of holiday shopping business? Walmart will offer, beginning at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 22, holiday gifts for the entire family, while supplies last. That includes an electric scooter for $79, a steam mop for $39 or men's jeans for $9.50. (Why do Mom and Dad always get the boring presents?) Target's deals begin an hour later, at 9 p.m. According to an ad …
