A fire broke out in a utility closet at the Ruby Tuesday's in Dumfries Tuesday afternoon, according to the Prince William County Fire and Rescue Department. Fire and rescue units responded at 1 p.m. to the fire on Jefferson Davis Highway and saw smoke showing from the rear. Smoke alarms had alerted employees and diners to the fire, so the building was already evacuated. No one was injured. The fire started in a utility closet, where firefighters extinguished it, said Kim Hylander, a public information officer for the department. There was no further extension of the fire. The Fire Marshal's Office estimated $2,000 worth of damages and is investigating the cause.

Three construction workers had to be rescued from a trench after they were overcome by an unknown smell.
Three construction workers had to be rescued from a trench off Mohican Road after they were overcome by an unknown smell at about noon today, said Kim Hylander, spokesperson for Prince William County Fire and Rescue. "They were conscious," Hylander said. "They had to be put on stretchers." OSHA was on scene as fire and rescue helped the men. The workers were taken to a local hospital. It is not known what substance would have caused the smell.
