ReplyJeremy and Sarah Meyers have a true American entrepreneurial spirit! They live near me and are the heart and soul of BadWolf Brewery, which will soon burst onto the Prince William business scene with minimal delay. I recently visited their business location in Manassas, and I know first-hand that the situation described in this article is but a temporary setback...they will succeed! I can't wait to be there for them at their ribbon-cutting, and I look forward to assisting them and other local businesses legislatively in the 2014 session of the General Assembly!

ReplyConnie:
You have nailed it! In our public discourse, it's crucial that we listen to each other, especially those who offer a differing viewpoint. Despite the challenges of legislating in Richmond, members of both parties deal with one another with a refreshing civility that is dramatically different from what we see in Washington. Thank you for highlighting this issue for us all...you are a great community leader!

On the article Opinion: Long Election Day Lines 'Cannot Ever Happen Again'

ReplyI believe that Supervisor Principi is correct. Election officials at the local and state levels, along with local and state-level elected officials, need to adequately resource the necessary technology to ensure quick and accurate balloting at our voting places in PWC. Connie Moser is also correct in her observation about the wording of the proposed constitutional amendments. In the future, these must be written in clear, concise, and easily-understood prose. Regardless of these challenges, many thanks to those who voted and those who volunteered their time and talent to work at the polls. Both are at the heart of American democracy!

On the Blog Post Public Bodies Need More Public Discourse, Not Less

ReplyOne of the professional satisfactions I've had as a member of the Virginia General Assembly is to know and respect Megan Rhyne. In her capacity as Executive Director of VCOG (Virginia Coalition on Open Government), she and Ginger Stanley (Executive Director of the Virginia Press Association) have been my chief "tutors" on matters regarding FOIA and open government. That's one reason that I'm proud to be a card-carrying member of VCOG. Megan's article knocks the ball out of the park by succinctly laying out the issues for her readers. In chairing the Virginia Commission on Civics Education and the General Assembly Military and Veterans Caucus, I've learned that the best business model is to do ALL deliberations in public view and to act as if every citizen is in fact a sitting member of these bodies. Megan gets it right. To learn more about open government, receive periodic email updates, or join VCOG, go to http://www.opengovva.org.
