Summer Staycation: Local Birdwatching

Get closer to nature this summer.

Maybe your wallet's been looking a little thin lately. Maybe you're worn out from attending family weddings and family reunions. Maybe it's time for you to kick back and enjoy a summer staycation

Your days off are the perfect time to try out a new hobby, or invest a little more time in a favorite art or craft. With the warm weather, why not try finding a quiet spot of shade to do some birdwatching?

Visit the Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge. Try a bird walk at Merrimac Farm. Visit the Prince William Forest Park. You can also learn how to make your own yard a friendlier spot for birds and other wildlife with the Audubon at Home habitat landscaping program.

To purchase bird feed for wild birds, visit the Wild Bird Center in Dillingham Square. To purchase gardening supplies, visit Lake Ridge Nursery on Old Bridge Road.

While gardening, pick up a few landscaping tips from The Greener Side Lawn & Landscaping. And when the summer's over, you can look forward to fall gardening.
