Free Comic Book Day

When/Where: May 5, all day. Bull Run Regional Library, 8051 Ashton Avenue, Manassas.

Why Go: Free comic books given away for all ages.

When/Where: May 5, noon. Veterans Memorial Regional Park, 14300 Veterans Drive, Woodbridge.

Why Go: Join the grand opening and rededication and check out demos from professional skateboarders. 

Local band Battle of York will be playing at the grand opening.

Price: Free.

When/Where: May 5, 1 p.m. 14900 Potomac Town Place, Woodbridge.

Why Go: Live music, food sampling, prizes, interactive video game theater, moon bounce, balloon art.

Price: Free.

When/Where: May 5, 6-11:30 p.m. Bull Run Unitarian Universalists Church, 9350 Main St, Old Town Manassas.

Why Go: This prom will affirm GLBT youth. The theme, "Set Fire to the Shame," will address the bullying of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender youth.

Price: Tickets are $20 and are available for purchase at the event.  Organizers  encourage prom-goers to purchase tickets in advance, as only 125 people are allowed to attend.  To buy an advance ticket, email Crystal Chesher at cheshercrystal@yahoo.com.

May Day 5K

When/Where: May 6, 8 a.m. Ridgewood Community Center, 12350 Oakwood Drive, Lake Ridge.

Why Go: An event for all ages. Participants may run or walk in the 5K. The event also includes music, food, an award cermony prize raffle, and face painting for the kids.

Price: $20 for RidgeRunners members, $25 for non-members.

When/Where: May 6, noon. 10960 George Mason Cir, Manassas.

Why Go: A family-friendly event focusing on local arts, with live performances, displays of visual art, book readings, classes, demonstrations, awards, and food. Presented by the Prince William County Arts Council and the Hylton Performing Arts Center.

Price: Free.
