Update: Kitchen Fire Threatens Lake Ridge Condominium

The accidental fire was caused by a cooking incident.

Update: The condominium fire that left five people displaced and caused $15,000 in damages began as a cooking accident. The fire then spread throughout the kitchen, threatening the rest of the two-story condominium in the 12500 block of Forest Hill Road.

"Upon arrival, firefighters observed light smoke emitting from the back of the building," Public Information Specialist Kim Hylander said in a prepared statement. "They were met by occupants of the home informing them that everyone was safely out of the house and the location of the fire. As firefighters moved to the rear of the unit, they encountered heavy black smoke coming out of an open patio door.

Firefighters extinguished the fire within a few minutes.
